New Volkswagen Passat 2012 Has Returned

    DETROIT RECEIVED THE NEW MIDSIZE SEDAN. The new Passat is relatively cheap, however, it has a sophisticated style that makes it look more expensive than it actually is.

DETROIT - The German trademark revealed that its new sedan which had been announced as its new "midsize sedan", is the new Passat 2012, a key model to increase the sales of Volkswagen, which hopes to snatch away to the Japanese Toyota, the world number one position.

Starting price will be under $20,000

Designated so far with the appellation of "new midsize sedan", this luxurious vehicle will be produced in the new VW plant located at Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the group has invested around $1 billion, in order to expand their operations in America.

"Volkswagen has returned to the United States and we are here to stay", said the president of the German group, Martin Winterkorn, at the past Detroit Auto Show of this 2011.

The new Passat is bigger, has more luxury options and its characteristics were designed and planned to suit the taste and lifestyle of U.S. buyers.

Three trim models

It is bigger than its predecessors and will have three engine options, one 2.5L of gasoline, offered for first time in the Passat. Another one of 2.0L TDI that develops 140 horsepower and an efficiency of a hybrid vehicle (up to 43 mpg). And the 3rd options offers a 3.6L VR6 engine of 280-HP and a fuel efficiency of 28 miles per gallon.

This new Passat will be offer in three versions: S, SE and SEL, and a total of 16 different levels of gadgets and installed equipment. Its proportions are balanced and give it a dominant and clean style which is the 'design DNA' of the new range of the Volkswagen vehicles.

Exterior

From the lateral side, it looks a little bit like a muscle car, and wheel arches emphasize its dynamic properties while the roof-line is similar to the sports coupes.

Interior & Features

The Volkswagen Passat has a high level of comfort thanks to the ample space in the seating area and features like automatic climate control, an analog clock in the center of the instrument panel, a display screen with the outside temperature and ice warning, Bluetooth and the new deluxe sound system Fender, designed exclusively for Volkswagen

It also comes with 17" and 18" wheels, depending on the version, adjustable leather seats, multifunction steering wheel, touch screen navigation system, memory driver's seat and remote entry.

Safety

In terms of safety, the new Passat offers an Intelligent Emergency Response System which monitors the car functioning. It also features tire pressure system, stability control, ABS, six airbags and a rigid structure that protects the driver and passengers in case of collision.

Volkswagen has been on the U.S. market for over 50 years, "they have become a marginal player", said the leader of the group in the United States, Jonathan Browning. The German manufacturer had no factory in the country since the 80's and its market share was limited to a small 3.1% in 2010, including its luxury brand Audi. However, the VW group expects to sell one million cars of its new Passat model by 2018.
