As every year, the well-known magazine Consumer Reports -CR- held the Annual Auto Survey 2013, which presented the best and worst new cars according to the experience of its subscribers with 1.1 million vehicles in the past 10 years (2004 -2013).

Please find below the list of the least reliable new cars, which is based on the last three years of each model. If a model has not been redesigned in this period, it will appear with an asterisk.

1. Ford C-MAX Energi (Plug-in Hybrid)
2. Ford Escape (1.6L Ecoboost)
3. Mini Cooper Countryman
4. Ford C-Max Hybrid
5. Nissan Pathfinder
6. Volkswagen Beetle
7. Cadillac XTS
8. Ford Explorer (V6, 4WD)
9. Hyundai Genesis Coupe
10. Ford Taurus (turbo)

The bad thing about this list, just in case you didn't notice it, is that 5 of them are Ford. Seeing some of them on this list isn't a surprise, as they have bad records and are known for their poor reliability, like the Volkswagen Beetle or the Ford Taurus. But, some others are a complete surprise for me, that's the case of the Cadillac XTS, which I thought was an outstanding vehicle with no cons.

The point is that if you are thinking of buying a new car this coming 2014, and among your choices is included one of these 10 listed above, you should do the homework and research before going to the dealership to test them. It is always good to read about the experiences that other owners have had with their cars since the moment they bought them from the dealership.

Thanks, Virtualgirl, for sharing this list. Among my plans for next year is buying a Hyundai Genesis, and I was very excited, as everyone these days is talking only good things about Hyundai and its positive evolution. I never thought this vehicle could present issues. I think I'm going to have to dig more into it.

There's no such thing as cheap and cheerful. It's cheap and nasty or expensive and cheerful. NYC Style!

I agree, the VW Beetle is one of those vehicles that you should avoid at all costs.

When I bought my first car, it was a Ford Taurus. It broke down 45 minutes after I took it out from the dealer lot, transmission failed, since then, no more Ford cars in my life.

Looking for some affordable car for my son!
