For those who are planning to buy a new car this year, feeling tempted by the low prices and good deals that generate the high existing demand today, is not surprising. If you are among these people we hope you are not of those who are amazed by these huge signs announcing relatively low prices on their stickers as there are many factors to consider and figure out if this new car is really going to cost less over time if you compare it with other more expensive. In most cases, an affordable low price doesn't mean cheap as time goes on. For example, besides the price, you have to take into account the cost of fuel consumption, depreciation of its value once it is outside the dealership, the cost of maintenance and repairs, the cost of the loan, the cost of insurance, taxes and other additional expenses that arise over time.

For this reason, at this time we are sharing with the Autopten users, a list recently relased by Consumer Reports where they show the top 12 cheapest cars to own over time in their respective segments. If you want to save money over the long term, we strongly suggest to consider giving a look at these vehicles the next time you are out in the street visiting dealerships and testing new cars.

If this were my situation and I had the money to buy a new car at this moment, my favorite are the Prius C, which I think looks better than the regular Prius, the Buick LaCrosse which is sturdy and stylish, the Buick Verano, I don't know but I really like Buick cars, the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and the Acura RDX, but If I have to choose one of them, it would be the Hyundai Santa Fe SUV. I know Hyundai has not the best reputation, but I really love the evolution this automaker is having.

Well just in case anyone wants to know what are the most expensive cars to own according to Consumer Reports, this is the list:

  • Kia Rio EX
  • Chevrolet Cruze Eco
  • Kia Optima SX 2.0T
  • Chrysler 300C
  • Cadillac ATS
  • BMW 750Li
  • Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (man.)
  • Volkswagen Tiguan SEL
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (V8)
  • Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ (5.3)
  • Cadillac Escalade (base)

Most of them are luxury cars and full-size vehicles, which is pretty obvious why they are the most expensive.
Just be baby.

The Mini Cooper in red color would be my choice, it is perfect for they heavy traffic of New York City. Its price is affordable and I had understood its interior material and the car itself is built on high quality materials. I also like the Acura MDX but it is too expensive for my pocket. A vehicle that wouldn't be there and even in the streets is the Ford Flex, seriously guys, that's the ugliest SUV and car I have ever seen.
There's no such thing as cheap and cheerful. It's cheap and nasty or expensive and cheerful. NYC Style!

I also wonder what kind of people would buy such an ugly SUV like the Ford Flex when I look at somebody driving one of these weird SUVs on the streets, I just feel sorry for them.
Best car deals and a lot of affordable pre-owned vehicle available! Love it!

Buick has the best sedans, stylish and elegant besides all the interior features and gadgets they use to have. The Buick Verano would be a good vehicle for me as I'm not very pretentious.

My girlfriend is crazy for buying a freaking Mini Cooper but I don't want to, I'm going to pay the down, the Mini is kind of gay, maybe for when she wants to ride by herself but not with me on her side, although it feels made on high-quality that's the only thing I like about the car.
