General Motors announced last Wednesday they did not complete the sale of its Hummer to the Chinese group Tengzhong Chinese and therefore they will stop making this popular 4x4 vehicle model, of military style in its origin and an economic status symbol.
The demise of the Hummer brand will involve the loss of about 3,000 jobs directly linked to the production, design and distribution of this powerful SUV.
The Global Crisis Was A Fact
A GM spokesman said the group has "about 3,000 employees working on the design, production and sales of Hummer, not including suppliers". "Some of these employees work in other brands, therefore the real impact on employment would be significantly less important", he added.
"GM will now work closely with employees, distributors and suppliers of Hummer to stop the activity of orderly and responsible manner," said the manufacturer in a press release.
Luxurious and large, this 4x4 is the symbol of the crisis in the global auto industry, which led GM to halt making it.
